The City of Batavia, Kane County, IL., is in the process of updating the historic Batavia Government Center building located at 100 N. Island Ave., Batavia, IL. The Government Center was built in 1903 by the Appleton Manufacturing Company as their company headquarters, manufacturing facility and warehouse. The building was constructed using primarily native Batavia limestone and some brick. The City of Batavia purchased the property in the 1970’s for use as a municipal complex.

The current project involves replacement of approximately ninety-seven (96) five foot five wide by seven feet tall (5’-5” x 7’) fixed over awning type windows and masonry tuck-pointing of the limestone building façade.

The current windows are fixed over awning type and are approximately 35 years old (1983). The intent is to replace the existing windows with similar new, fixed over awning windows with full width capacity. The ancillary work associated with the window replacements will include interior window sill replacements; drywall repairs and painting; and new interior shades.

The City of Batavia, in association with Allen & Pepa Architects, has performed all due diligence related to the type, style and performance standards for the new windows specifications. The City has chosen Andersen Windows, Bayport, MN, as the prefered window manufacturer. The detailed window specifications are included in the bid
documents.
